This Is Our Time
A letter from Zulaika Maduro, founder of One Within All, Brookfield, Connecticut
I was meditating when the knowing came.
I had spent my life taking care of people, my family, my loved ones, the people life put in my hands. And in that quiet, I was told by a higher source that it could not stop with us. I had to build a place. A beautiful, safe, healing place, where someone else could experience what I had found: wellness, and feeling connected again to her own mind, to her own emotions, and to her own body.
That is how One Within All began.
The truth is, it began long before that meditation, in my own search. I went looking for my own healing, studio to studio, trying to connect, trying to feel held. And again and again, I felt like just a number in the room. And it was not only in those rooms. In my own life, I carried everything for everyone, task after task, year after year, until I felt unalived instead of alive. Disconnected. Tired. Burned out. The proper support was not there. The safety was not there. The community was not there. The love was not there, and the light was not there. I cannot be the only one who ever walked out of a beautiful room still feeling unseen. So the place I could not find became the place I had to build.
And I will tell you the truth about what building it has cost. It has not been an easy journey. It has been a challenging journey, a heartbreaking journey. Even with the best mentors beside me, the Connecticut Small Business Development Center and coaches who believed in this place, the business loan was still denied. Again and again I was told no, told that we did not need a place like this, told to put a clothing store, a retail store, in this space instead. As if what this community needs is one more place to buy things, and not a place to heal, to be happy, and to live long and well. And even today, the journey still brings its challenges, one after another. And honestly, every one of them only shows me how important this place is. If it were easy to build, someone would have built it already. And I have put it all into this place, my heart, my mind, my soul. And I cannot wait to welcome everyone.
It is a holistic place, a home for your wellbeing, opening soon in Brookfield. Yoga and mat Pilates in rooms kept small on purpose, twelve guests at most, so you are known here, and seen. A salt cave. An infrared sauna. Red light, PEMF, ionic foot soaks, and sound baths. Quiet rooms where the day softens, and you can hear yourself again.
I built it for the ones who carry everyone else, and two faces come to me every day.
The first has put herself last for years. She takes care of the family, the kids, the house, the responsibilities at work and at home, and her partner too, until she is overwhelmed, and has quietly forgotten herself. She has forgotten how beautiful and how joyous life is. She has forgotten that her feminine side never left her, that she is beautiful and gorgeous, and that happiness, joy, contentment, health, and wealth already live inside her, meant to be shared. To her I say: you do not have to carry pain alone. You do not have to feel left out, or feel that you do not belong. And you never have to lose your identity while life goes by.
The second woman never stopped caring for herself, and she is an example to all of us. She cherishes herself, and she chooses places like this one to keep growing, emotionally, physically, and mentally, because she knows what I know: self care is essential. Self care is a must.
And let me say this plainly, because I know it is true: this place is not for women only. I know there are men carrying the very same quiet disconnection, putting themselves last in their own way, forgetting their own peace while they hold everything together for everyone else. Men go through this separation too. This door is open to them. This rest is for them. If you have forgotten yourself, whoever you are, you belong in this room.
And here is the part I love most. These two women hold each other in balance. We support each other, and we grow from each other. That is love, and that is light, and that is the whole idea of this studio.
Before this room, there was the hospital. My years as a nurse taught me resilience, and they taught me strength. They taught me to see beyond what was evident, to listen, and then to really check and assess, to see what was really wrong and to feel what was really wrong. They taught me to be fully in service, from my heart, my mind, and my body. And they taught me that compassion, grace, love, dedication, and loyalty to others is also a representation of how much we love ourselves. All of that came with me into this studio. It is in every class size, every quiet corner, every unhurried minute.
And nursing showed me one thing more. It does not matter what role a person has, or what work they do, or how many medications they are taking. If something is absent, they still come back, unhappy and disconnected. What was absent was never one more thing to fix. It was integration, connection, alignment, and peace, in the body and the mind, in our emotions and in our thoughts. And when that peace comes, it does not stay inside one person. It ripples, into her life, to her family, to her community, and to her well-being.
And what was also absent were the tools. The services that let a person actually connect to that well-being. To reset. To regulate the nervous system. To reflect. To pause, to be alive. Pause, to feel. Pause, to live. Move, reconnect, restore. So I built them, all of them, for exactly that, and every room in this studio stands on the same pillars: move, recover, reset, reconnect. Yoga and mat Pilates, to move the body back into itself. The salt cave, the infrared sauna, red light, and PEMF, to recover and reset. Ionic foot soaks and sound baths, to soften, release, and let the day go. Reiki and energy work, and quantum hypnosis, to gently clear what has been carried too long, the old barriers and the limiting beliefs. Every offer here was made for one purpose: nervous system regulation, and well-being in body, mind, emotions, and thoughts. And all of it was also made for the body itself: for the wellness of the body, for the strength of the muscles, and for longevity, so we live our years strong, present, and fully alive.
So if you remember one sentence from my story, let it be this one:
You are whole. You are complete, and whole, exactly as you are.
We are happy. We are joyous. We are strong. We deserve to be beautiful. We deserve to be pampered. We deserve to rest, embraced, loved, and cherished. And we deserve to take care of ourselves like we have taken care of everyone else for years.
This is our time.
